A's slugger won MVP Award with .333 BA, 43 homers and 137 RBI last season
IF YOU COULD BE ANYONE IN baseball right now, for the pure voyeuristic thrill of it all, you might as well be Jason Giambi.
He's old enough (30) to be considered a leader, young enough to be called a kid. He's handsome, unattached and last season hit everything on the screws.
He's only now cutting the ribbon on his prime, just starting to get a feel for what he might be capable of when experience and ability collide.
And few have performed as well as he did in 2000 while having so much fun.
"This might be the ultimate year," Giambi said during the season. "Everything in my life right now is great."
How could it not be? The Oakland first baseman breezed into the A's clubhouse one morning with his kid brother in tow. They both carded their breakfasts in fast-food bags. Jason paused near one of the clubhouse televisions just as ESPN announcers were talking about him being tied for the major league lead with 16 home runs.
