International gay travel association meeting in Fort Lauderdale.(South Florida Sun-Sentinel)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Three hundred of the most influential people in gay travel have arrived in Fort Lauderdale for the 19th annual convention of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, which could strengthen a growing niche in Broward's County's lucrative tourism industry.

The three-day meeting opened with a reception at the Doubletree Oceanfront hotel and closes Sunday with a gala dinner at the Broward County Convention Center.

It has been 17 years since the convention was held here. Last year it was in Munich, Germany. Next year it is scheduled for Manchester, England. A big benefit of hosting the meeting is to bring international gay …
