Jun. 17--EL MONTE, Calif.--A job training center owes about $1 million to the county and is on the verge of collapse. County officials say the Mid San Gabriel Valley Consortium must pony up by Aug. 15, said Adine Forman. The first payment of $52,000 is due to the county today. If the payment is not made, the consortium could be shut down.
Dick Nichols, a member of the Workforce Investment Board of Los Angeles County, the group that oversees the consortium, wondered where the money would come from.
"I have no idea how they are going to pay it," he said. "I'll be interested to see how they do it."
