Belmont a challenging task for War Emblem.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)
FORT WORTH, Texas _ It may be the toughest championship to win in sports. Since Sir Barton won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes to become the first Triple Crown winner in 1919, 10 other horses have matched his feat in 82 years.
Since Affirmed in 1978, no other horse has done it. Seven horses _ Spectacular Bid, Pleasant Colony, Alysheba, Sunday Silence, Silver Charm, Real Quiet and Charismatic _ have been in a position to try after winning the Derby and the Preakness.
