DOVER, Del. _ Greg Biffle's first victory this season in NASCAR's Grand National series couldn't have come at a better time.
Not only had Biffle been snake-bit in his quest for the series championship, but his win in the MBNA Platinum 200 at Dover International Speedway also came the weekend team owner Jack Roush _ severely injured in a private plane accident April19 near Troy, Ala. _ made his return to the track.
Biffle dominated much of the race _ leading 131 of 200 laps _ but held off Jeff Green by .657 seconds in a three-lap shoot-out at the end. Bobby Hamilton Jr. finished third, followed by Scott Wimmer and Jack Sprague.
Biffle held a comfortable lead when the race was red-flagged for 10 minutes after a two-car accident involving Jason Keller and Hank Parker Jr. on Lap195. Biffle quickly reestablished his advantage.
"The guys back in the shop have been building us awesome cars. We've had runs like this all year, we just haven't been able to close the deal," said Biffle, who moved into fifth place in points, 155 behind Sprague.
"We adjusted on the race car and I didn't know what to do. They made an air pressure adjustment (on the tires) and she came around."
Keller fell from first to third in the standings with a finish of 28th.
