DALLAS _ The Arena Football League wants the Dallas Desperados to take a lead role in introducing indoor football to Mexico.
The deal isn't final yet, but the AFL is close to setting up a January exhibition game between the Desperados, a first-year AFL franchise run by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and family, and the Los Angeles Avengers in Mexico City.
For a decade or more, the Cowboys have had a big following in Mexico, partly because the team makes regular appearances in exhibition games. "It could lead to the same passion for the Desperados," said Jerry Jones Jr., the AFL team's president and general manager.
