LOS ANGELES _ If not Kevin Brown, the Dodgers figured they at least had Omar Daal. He was 4-0 and had an ERA of 0.88. He is left-handed, giving them two left-handed starters they could throw at an Arizona Diamondbacks lineup that includes six left-handed hitters: Daal on Friday, Kazuhisa Ishii on Sunday.
With Brown on the disabled list with swelling in his pitching elbow, the Dodgers were somewhat heartened by that.
But after a 6-3 loss to Arizona behind the pitching of Randy Johnson (9-1), the Diamondbacks now have a National League-leading 11 victories this season against left-handed starting pitchers, coming off a 2001 season in which they had a league-leading 25 victories ...
