AKRON, Ohio _ Shanda Grubb has a way of turning challenges into opportunities.
Her movement may be limited, but she looks at that as an opening for connecting with others with disabilities. Forming words may require effort, but her speech patterns grab her listeners' attention. She may have to depend on others, but that gives her a special appreciation for her friends and family.
Grubb was born with cerebral palsy, but to her it's not just a disability. It's also a gift.
Having a disability "is kind of beside the point," the 32-year-old Akron, Ohio, woman said. A devout Christian, she figures it's just part of God's plan for her, a plan that has led her to a career of encouraging people with disabilities and advocating for their acceptance and participation in all aspects of society.
