COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. _ NORAD wants to build unpiloted blimps that will watch for enemy attack by circling 70,000 feet above North America.
Similar to blimps that fly over football games, the high-altitude airships could use radar and other equipment to detect enemy planes, ships and missiles as they near North America.
The blimps would complement the North American Aerospace Defense Command's ground radar systems, which are limited because they can't follow the curve of the Earth.
The blimps would have a wider view and could spot an enemy attack farther out.
