No, it's not the latest Spielberg alien. It's a car and baby, you can drive it.
Those eye-catching neon-green Volkswagen Beetles used by the budding San Francisco-based nonprofit City CarShare program have come to the East Bay.
CarShare in January began offering its members hourly rentals of cars stationed in four pods in Oakland and Berkeley neighborhoods and downtowns.
In a few months, it has attracted more than 120 East Bay customers. On average, 10 drivers sign up each week.
