Last week, big news was made by the group that started "Take Our Daughters to Work Day." Henceforth, said the Ms. Foundation for Women, the girls-only rule would be dropped. Boys would be allowed.

Many companies had already opened the event to boys, but some had hewed to the original line. Last Thursday, a group of young women huddled in a cubicle here at The Kansas City Star and decided it was now OK to allow boys. That was quite a shift: Two years ago, participating girls produced an editorial for the in-house event newsletter, Stardaughters, with the headline, "No boys allowed!"
