Antonya Nelson commandeers an aphorism from the wryly perceptive Oscar Wilde to signal the author's ambitious agenda in "Female Trouble _ Stories," her new collection.

"Every woman is a rebel, and usually in wild revolt against herself" is Wilde's concise reading of the self-laceration that can often accompany a woman's quest for self-discovery.
