SANTA CLARA_Quarterback Jeff Garcia practiced Thursday and said he doesn't expect his sprained right knee to keep him out Sunday when the 49ers (4-2) host the Detroit Lions (0-6) at 3Com Park.
"It's probably going to be a couple weeks before it feels totally back to normal, and that's a couple weeks without reinjuring it," Garcia said of his knee. "But I'm totally confident I'll be ready to go on Sunday."
Coach Steve Mariucci said he remains hopeful that Garcia will play and that the 49ers won't have to press into duty No. 1 backup Tim Rattay or newly acquired veteran Rick Mirer.
