COLUMBIA, Mo. _ The sports editor of the Columbia Daily Tribune, Kent Heitholt, was beaten to death in the newspaper's parking lot shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
Heitholt was 48.
"He loved his family," said his wife, Deborah Evangelista. "And he loved sports."
Heitholt, who celebrated his fifth anniversary at the paper on Wednesday, had just wrapped up a typical late night at the office. He got into his car, then got back out to feed a familiar cat that hangs around the newspaper office.
"Kent always fed the cat," said sportswriter Joe Walljasper.
