SANTA ANA, Calif. _ The U.S. economy clearly is in recession and Orange County's is in decline, but both should turn around in the second quarter of 2002, according to a new economic forecast released Thursday.
"Things are going to get worse, but we're nowhere near what we saw in the early 1990s," economist Anil Puri, director of California State University-Fullerton's Institute for Economic and Environmental Studies, said at a presentation of the school's 2002 Economic Forecast.
Thursday's prediction was in marked contrast to the forecast last May, when Fullerton anticipated that the local economy would be bouncing back by now.
