FOXBORO, Mass. _ Bryan Cox knew what he was talking about. The Patriots' linebacker claimed Sunday that the block by Denver guard Dan Neil that broke his right leg was illegal. On Thursday, the league agreed.
Gene Washington, the NFL's director of football operations, announced that Neil had been fined $15,000 for the illegal block, which was a violation of Rule 12, Section 2, Article 9, which states, "There shall be no clipping from behind below the waist against a non-runner."
"Specifically, on a pass play, you clipped your opponent from behind and below the knee," Washington said in a letter to Neil.
