DETROIT _ As returns go, they don't come much more triumphant than Chris Osgood's.
Osgood returns to Joe Louis Arena on Friday night for the first time since an unceremonious pre-season departure via the waiver draft, where he was left to dangle after the Red Wings were unable to maneuver a trade. Osgood, who turns 29 later this month, became expendable after the Wings acquired Dominik Hasek on June 30.
The New York Islanders grabbed Osgood off the wire, and immediately made him the starting goaltender. In his first month on the job, Osgood posted an 8-1-1 record with a 1.85 goals-against average, two shutouts and a .936 save percentage, which has helped ...
