BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE, N.Y. _ The Adirondack Museum is seemingly out of place out in the middle of nowhere.

Still, it has won over legions of fans. The museum has been called the Smithsonian Institution of the Adirondacks by National Geographic Traveler and the best museum of its kind anywhere by the New York Times. That's high praise and heady stuff, but it's well earned.

The colorful and sprawling regional museum is filled with treasures from attics, basements, outdoor sheds and barns that celebrate 200 years of history and life in upstate New York.
