BLACKSBURG, Va. _ Apparently, completing 17-of-27 passes for 296 yards and a career-high four touchdowns while leading his team to a 44-30 victory against East Carolina, and earning co-Offensive Player of the Week honors in the Big East, wasn't enough for junior Troy Nunes to keep the starting quarterback job at Syracuse.
Paul Pasqualoni, Syracuse's coach, said he had sophomore R.J. Anderson slated to start at quarterback against ECU, but Anderson wound up getting sick before the game and Nunes got the call instead. Despite Nunes' performance against the Pirates, Anderson is going to start this Saturday for the Orangemen in their Big East opener at Rutgers.
"We'll go back where we left off and go back and start `Robin'," Pasqualoni said. "We don't have a philosophy here that a guy loses his position because he was sick."
While Nunes shared the weekly offensive award with Miami's Clinton Portis, Big East co-Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Scott Bradley of Boston College and Kevin McCadam, a senior free safety from Virginia Tech. McCadam had a 69-yard interception return for a touchdown against UCF.
