BLACKSBURG, Va. _ As if losing sophomore Deon Provitt for the season Saturday wasn't enough to convert Virginia Tech's starting linebacker situation from laden with talent to loaded with trouble, more linebacker problems may not be far behind.
Senior Jake Houseright, the Hokies' starting middle linebacker, experienced pain and a loss of mobility in his left knee following Virginia Tech's 46-14 victory against Central Florida. He may have torn cartilage in the knee, according to Mike Goforth, Virginia Tech's trainer.
If Houseright can't regain pain-free movement by the middle of the week, he will likely have arthroscopic surgery Wednesday, Goforth said. Mid-week surgery would mean Houseright would miss Saturday's game (noon, ESPN2) at West Virginia (2-2). It's the same knee Houseright had reconstructive surgery on in January to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained in last season's Gator Bowl.
