HELP WITH CANDIDA
We had an overwhelming response to Sheryl Young's story "My journey with life-threatening candida" in the February 2001 issue of Better Nutrition. Following is a letter from the author.
In Sheryl Young's words:
I am delighted to see how my struggle with candida is helping the readers. It is always good to consult your own physician but, chances are, readers have written in to the magazine because their doctors "can't find anything wrong with them." Let me give your readers a tip: This is not something many "traditional" doctors, especially HMO primary care physicians, will acknowledge. That is because they do not recognize the symptoms or often mistake it for something else. It's not accepted by the mainstream as a serious illness. Don't get discouraged! It doesn't hurt to try, because maybe you'll be more fortunate than I was in getting the treatment covered by your insurance, but if your doctor snubs you on this, please, please see an "alternative" healthcare specialist. If you have a local health food store, chances are there is a licensed nutritionist there who can refer you to someone. The solutions may not be covered by your insurance, but your well-being is worth it.
