PHILADELPHIA _ Another summer has nearly come and gone, and there's so little for the National Basketball Association to complain about. Stars have remained with their teams. Those who have left were of little consequence, anyway. Almost everything that the league had hoped for has kicked into full gear, and a deep breath can barely be heard from the players' association. All thanks to commissioner David Stern.
If you're a fan with sense, you're sending kudos in Stern's direction. If you're a player, hissing is accompanied by admiration, nonetheless. And if you're an owner of one of the league's 29 teams, Stern is the Tiger Woods of sports commissioners.
Nearly six weeks have passed since teams could sign players, and few franchises have legitimate complaints. Vince Carter stayed with Toronto. Dikembe Mutombo remained in Philadelphia. Chris Webber stayed in Sacramento, and Michael Finley is still a Dallas Maverick.
