One of Javier Beorlegui's best days also turned out to be nothing worth remembering.
Beorlegui, a senior from Merritt Island, finished with a 44.3-yard average on seven punts, including a career-long 68-yarder that pinned Clemson to its 1-yard line.
He and Carlos Thompson also teamed up for a play not often seen_a punt and catch. Beorlegui spiralled a pooch punt from Clemson's 32. When Tigers returner Brian Mance decided not to make a play on the punt, so Thompson raced downfield and made an over-the-shoulder catch at Clemson's 1.
Beorlegui saw his field goal streak come to an end at 10 -- dating back to last season_and committed the cardinal sin for a kicker by missing an extra point. His missed a 48-yard attempt, pushing it right, in the second quarter. His streak was the second-longest in school history behind Charlie Pierce's 12 in a row in 1993.
He offered no excuses for his missed extra point.
"They changed balls on me and I forget to re-take my steps," he said. "I knew as soon as I planted I was in trouble."
