ORLANDO _ Steve Park survived a freakish accident while driving under caution in Saturday's Busch Series race at Darlington Raceway. After emergency workers removed Park from his car and airlifted him to a local hospital, Park was treated for a moderate concussion and a possible fracture or dislocation of a left clavicle. Although awake and alert, Park was scheduled to stay overnight for observation.
"Steve Park was moving all four extremities, was alert and was talking when he left," track spokeswoman Cathy Mock said.
As the field prepared to come around to the green flag during the backstretch on lap 20 of the South Carolina 200, Park's car apparently broke an axle or had a flat tire, forcing it to shoot down across the track toward the wall. Park veered in front of Larry Foyt, who was accelerating and trying to move up to the front of the pack, and was t-boned on the driver's side

"It was a bad-looking deal over there," said Elton Sawyer, who finished second to Jeff Burton after the race resumed.
Because Park_a Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver_will miss Sunday's Southern 500, Kenny Wallace is likely to climb into the driver's seat. Wallace was running Park's No. 1 Pennzoil Chevrolet during practice Saturday afternoon.
