FORT LAUDERDALE _ No team stood to gain more from September roster expansion than the Chicago Cubs.
While most of their National League competition was calling up the likes of 40-year-old Julio Franco (Braves) and rookie shortstop Adam Everett (Astros), the Cubs were hoping to add a couple of big names off the disabled list: right-hander Kerry Wood and left fielder Rondell White.
A strong September by either or both could significantly boost the Cubs to their first division title since 1989.
