Die-hard fans of conductor Otto Klemperer will treasure this CD release of a recording that originally appeared on EMI in the 1970s. For almost everyone else, it is more a curiosity than a vibrant performance, largely done in by the conductor's extraordinarily deliberate tempos. This account of Walkure's first act clocks in at more than seventy-one minutes, almost ten minutes longer than EMI's famous 1935 recording under Bruno Walter.
