Olga Guryakova is no longer an unknown young Russian soprano, thanks to the recent Metropolitan Opera premiere of Prokofiev's The Gambler. She is an important artist, genuine and generous, and reminds listeners of how marvelous and glorious the lyric soprano voice can be. Guryakova's first solo recital recording is a selection of Russian arias and orchestral songs -- a perfect showcase for her creamy sound, with plush middle voice and gleaming top.
