Vital NASA research center remains safe, say officials.(Daily Press)

WASHINGTON _ NASA officials said they have no plans to close Langley Research Center, but the Hampton facility may take on "new and different" research work as the space agency tries to consolidate and cut costs.

A review of NASA's organizational structure, to be completed in about two months, may recommend shifting programs among the agency's 10 field centers, including Langley, to streamline operations and save tens of millions of dollars.

News of the restructuring review Wednesday unnerved Virginia's congressional delegation, which in recent years has battled to secure Langley's future amid closure threats and budget cuts.
