Cotton Bowl tries to avoid early-morning start.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. _ The Cotton Bowl is trying to adjust its contract with the Big 12 and Southeastern conferences in an attempt to give the game a later kickoff time.
Cotton Bowl executive director Rick Baker said that in its new contract, which would take effect for the 2003 Cotton Bowl, the bowl hopes to either move the game from New Year's Day to become a preliminary game for a Bowl Championship Series contest or work a deal with the Gator Bowl that would bring a Big East Conference team to Dallas, thus allowing the Cotton a later start on Jan. 1.
