That's because llamas, not humans, carry the freight.

Llamas, sort of woolly ponies with the disposition of rabbits, carry the food and water while the humans walked along unencumbered.

No heavy backpacks crunching shoulders, no bottles of water bouncing against hips.

It's a soft adventure trip. "We don't attract big-time hikers," said Gale Livengood of Winddancers Lodging and Llama Treks, a family-owned business in the N.C. mountains 15 miles north of this Haywood County town.
