ST. LOUIS _ Fueled by pizza and a desire to make a deal, St. Louis Blues General Manager Larry Pleau worked the phones in his office late Saturday like an overnight telemarketer.
Pleau didn't swing a trade for Buffalo goalie Dominik Hasek, but did pull the trigger on another one that brought all-star center Doug Weight from the Edmonton Oilers.
Pleau and Blues President Mark Sauer finally drove away from Savvis Center about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
When the dust cleared, the Blues' payroll had climbed from around $36 million last season to approximately $55 million_and that's with several moves still pending.
