PHILADELPHIA _ The Florida Marlins didn't merely lose five games in four days in Philadelphia. They lost their center fielder when Preston Wilson had to leave Sunday's game after injuring his left thumb.
Wilson sprained the thumb while making a diving catch in the second inning on Pat Burrell's sinking liner but stayed in the game until the fifth. He went 0 for 2.
He will be examined today in South Florida.
The Marlins, meanwhile, headed to Montreal, where they open a three-game series against the Expos on Tuesday. Wilson might rejoin the team then, but there's a strong possibility he will be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
CASTILLO SITS AGAIN
Marlins second baseman Luis Castillo sat out his second consecutive game with a sore right hamstring, the result of recurring pain in the left side of his lower back that impeded his movement. Castillo had a similar leg injury in 1998, when he spent 15 days on the disabled list.
Castillo and the Marlins are hoping today's off day will help him be ready Tuesday.
