GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. _ Betsy King should be in the twilight of her illustrious LPGA Tour career. Owner of a berth in the LPGA Hall of Fame, and less than two months from her 46th birthday, she is at a point where she could be checking out new opportunities away from the golf course.
But King loves golf. More important, she thrives on the competition. She will take as much time as is needed, sometimes with darkness approaching, to work on improving her game.
The persistence hadn't paid off this year for King until Sunday. Once again, she found the groove that made her one of the great players in women's golf, using unerring accuracy with her irons and clutch putting to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic by 2 strokes over Lorie Kane.
