DETROIT _ An all right-handed starting rotation isn't all right.
A team should always have a left-handed starter. He forces hitters to see the ball coming toward the plate at an angle different from the perpetual stream of right-handers.
The Tigers have a second reason to want a left-handed starter _ a large reason: Comerica Park. It benefits a left-handed pitcher more than any other type of pitcher or hitter.
The classic way to beat a left-hander is with right-handed power hitters. Yet with Comerica Park's vast distances to left and left-center, a left-hander can be more aggressive in challenging right-handed batters than in other parks. Long drives to left and left-center that would be homers elsewhere become outs at Comerica Park.
