DETROIT _ The Red Wings cemented their status as a Western Conference contender over the weekend by pulling off a trade for six-time Vezina Trophy winner Dominik Hasek.
General manager Ken Holland sent forward Slava Kozlov, a 2002 first-round draft choice and future considerations to Buffalo in exchange. The Wings signed Hasek to a one-year deal for $8 million, plus two years, each at $8 million, at the club's option.
"He is one of the two or three best goalies in the world," Holland said Sunday. "When the opportunity to acquire a goaltender like Hasek comes up, you have to listen.
