Evidence has long suggested that a diet high in oily fish such as salmon and mackerel may help improve inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. At last, researchers from Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital have discovered the reason for this anti-inflammatory effect.
The scientists found a new and important class of anti-inflammatory fats in humans--called resolvins--that are derived from omega-3 fatty acids found in high concentration in fish oil.
