Picture yourself standing on a shore surrounded by eight square miles of kaleidoscopic colors that rival those on your Pucci bikini: peaceful cerulean water so clear you can make out the shade of Chanel polish on your toes (it's Organdy, their bright new coral, of course), a coastline speckled with fuchsia hibiscus blossoms and clusters of blue petrea, and snaky stretches of white sand. . . . Christopher Columbus may well have found Heaven on Earth when he came upon St. Barthelemy in 1493 (he named it after his brother Bartolomeo). And though everyone from Kate Moss to P. Diddy has chosen this corner of the French West Indies as their holiday spot of choice, the tiny Caribbean island is intent on remaining as undiscovered as possible. There are only a handful of hotels-secluded hideaways, each chicer than the last-and airspace restrictions mean visitors may only breeze in by boat (yachts over 80 feet long aren't allowed in the tiny harbor) or small plane.
