Dec. 8--AUSSIES FORCE COOPERATION IN WINE TRADE: It was the Australians who put the fear of Bacchus in the American wine industry a couple of years ago with their strategic plan to take a sizable bite out of the world wine market.
The vintners from Down Under had the plan spelled out in detail -- how many vineyards they needed to plant, how many enologists they needed to train, what kind of marketing, what government help.
After hearing of the Aussie plans, David Freed, chairman of UCC Group, and grape broker Bill Turrentine got together to found WineVision, an American version of the Australian battle plan.
