The holidays are here, and with them, party invitations. That's when you have to decide what to bring as a host or hostess gift. Here are my suggestions that will show your good taste (and some even taste good).

Bottles of wine are popular. But if you bring one, don't expect your host to serve it immediately.

Instead, bring it with the expectation he will pour it on another occasion. After all, the good host already has his menu and wine list chosen and bottles chilled, if necessary.

Expecting him to pull the cork on your offering could even be insulting. You're giving the message you knew you wouldn't like what your host was offering so you brought …
