Report Cites American Airlines' Impact on Miami Hub.(Originated from The Miami Herald)
Nov. 1--American Airlines Thursday touted its 7-year-old Miami hub as an engine that creates thousands of jobs and pumps billions of dollars into the local economy.
American and its regional partner American Eagle directly and indirectly support more than 114,000 jobs, or 9.8 percent of the area's total employment, according to a study commissioned by the airline.
"Our hub makes a very large economic contribution, which we have now quantified," said Robert Crandall, American's chairman.
The money spent by American's employees and 15 million passengers carried in 1995 generates $4.7 billion of annual gross regional product in Dade, said …
