LEXINGTON, Ky.--Jun. 15--Churchill Downs will expand its in-home wagering experiment, making it available to almost a quarter-million households in the Louisville area.

Churchill got a vote of confidence from the Kentucky Racing Commission yesterday to expand into Bullitt, Spencer, Oldham and Shelby counties. Churchill estimates as many as 22,000 households might sign up for the service.

"The day is coming, and it is probably 18 months away, when there will be a nationwide 800 number for wagering, and we have to decide whether we want to be part of this or let it pass us by," Churchill vice president Alexander Waldrop told the commission.
