BRADENTON, Fla--Jun. 2--Summer has arrived, and for some teens that means sleeping late and partying. But for Janet Kaiser, it means chasing toddlers and singing them songs.

The 18-year-old is working as a child care counselor during her summer vacation. She is among thousands of Manatee teens that are choosing to work through their vacation.

"It's important to work while you're still in school because it teaches responsibility," Kaiser said as she wiped the face of one of the 35 preschoolers.

Working at the child care center Academy of Brighter Children Sea Breeze Camps, 7224 Cortez Road, is particularly beneficial, Kaiser said. "It teaches you the importance of life, especially when you see it growing up all around you."

Whether it's working at a fast food restaurant, or with kids like Kaiser does, teens and their parents …
