He is slender with carrot-colored hair and an Icabod Crane physique, so why would anybody think that David Caruso could be a movie star?
The truth is that most people didn't. Before he ever mopped up the streets in ``NYPD Blue,'' Caruso acted in a movie with Robert De Niro called ``Mad Dog and Glory.''
And Caruso remembers it was not exactly the Welcome Wagon that greeted his performance.
``We took four agents to see the movie,'' Caruso tells me, ``and all four passed on me. They said I didn't have it, didn't have a big screen presence, could never get the girl and could NEVER carry a movie.
``Three weeks later I was doing `NYPD Blue' and all four of those agents called back and wanted to profess how wrong they were.''
Boy, were they wrong. Caruso is starring in his second big flick, the sexy thriller ``Jade,'' and not only does he carry the movie, he gets the girl. (Well, sort of.)
Though he left the TV show amidst some controversy, Caruso has nothing but good things to say about ``NYPD Blue.''
