Jul. 18--Kohl's Corp., a department-store chain that sells brand-name merchandise at discount prices, plans to open two stores in Wichita. Executives at Kohl's didn't return repeated telephone calls Monday. But Marvin Krout, director of the Metropolitan Area Planning Department, confirmed that Kohl's has received approval for plans to build two Wichita department stores, each more than 80,000 square feet.

"It's no secret that they are planning to build department stores," Krout said.

The proposed buildings, each valued at $2.4 million, would be at 3561 N. Rock Road, near Star Lumber, and at 6900 W. Kellogg, near Best Buy, according to building permits filed with …
