Xcellsis Gesellschaft (Neue Strae 95, 73230 Kirchheim, Germany; Tel: 0 70 21-89 38 96, Fax: 0 70 21-89 40 66) and BASF Aktiengesellschaft researchers have found a way to regenerate catalysts in a fuel-cell vehicle using methanol.
When catalytic activity is failing, Xcellsis uses hydrogen gas or a hydrogen-rich gas to purge the catalyst of poisons, partially restoring it and prolonging its life.
