Jun. 14--The Door Store, where South Florida shoppers have bought inexpensive desks and bookcases for 21 years, surprised consumers and landlords when its 13 stores began closing in past months.

But owner John Guarino, who is in the midst of a going-out-of- business sale at the company's warehouse, said he's not throwing in the towel.

Instead, Guarino hopes to launch a new company, called the Design Store, and imbue it with the originality that once made the Door Store successful. In the next two months, he plans to open Design Stores at two of the old Door Store locations: 490 Biltmore Way in Coral Gables and 14225 South Dixie Highway.
