Jun. 14--CARRIER OPENS CARGO OFFICE IN CHARLOTTE: The British airline Virgin Atlantic has opened a cargo sales office in Charlotte, hoping to capitalize on the shortage of cargo hauling capacity on British Airways' daily Charlotte-London flights.

Virgin will arrange to have cargo from Charlotte-area customers trucked overnight to Orlando, Fla., for a daily flight to London on Boeing 747 aircraft.

BA operates its Charlotte-London flights with far smaller Boeing 767s. BA has said it often must truck some Charlotte-area cargo to Washington for flights to London, because the 767s can't handle all the demand.
