June 13--SOME DRIVERS OVERCHARGED; REFUNDS ON WAY: The N.C. Department of Insurance announced Monday that more than 27,000 Mecklenburg County households will receive refunds on their auto insurance premiums.

The refunds, which total $509,000, will go to drivers insured between July 1, 1994 and April 1 who had violation points or had less than two years of driving experience. Those drivers overpaid surcharges to the N.C. Reinsurance Facility, which provides coverage to drivers rejected by the commercial insurance market.

Statewide, 396,000 households will receive refunds totaling $1.9 million. The amounts of the refunds will vary widely.
