Jun. 28--The unemployment rate in the Triad bounced back up in May, dimming hopes that unemployment had peaked.

The unemployment rate for the Winston-Salem/Greensboro/High Point area increased to 6.1 percent in May from 5.8 percent in April, according to figures released yesterday by the N.C. Unemployment Security Commission.

The region's unemployment rate fell in April after holding steady in March amid signs of an improving economy, especially for the hard-hit manufacturing industry.
