Aug. 1--San Diego gets a new publicly traded company today, but there won't be any initial public offering.

Captiva Software Corp. in San Diego closed its merger with the San Jose-based ActionPoint Inc. yesterday. Executives said the new company will be a strong competitor in the field of organizing and processing data from documents and other forms.

ActionPoint was a public company that traded under the symbol ACTP. The combined company will its headquarters in San Diego as Captiva Software and trade on the Nasdaq Stock Market starting today under the symbol CPTV.
